The tradition, which traces its origins to the 18th century, was initiated by a local royal family as an alternative to human sacrifice. The stone-pelting, which lasted for around 40 minutes, was halted when an elderly member of the Katedu group, Subhash, was injured. Following the tradition, Subhash's blood was used to mark a sacred tilak at the Bhadrakali temple.
Hundreds of people gathered to witness the unique blend of spirituality and tradition, dancing to the rhythmic beats of drums. Locals believe that this centuries-old festival helps safeguard the Dhami region from natural disasters and illnesses, symbolizing devotion and seeking blessings for the prosperity of the area.
