29 Oct
Summary

- Eyelid surgeries increased by nearly 19% in the U.S. recently.

A trend of younger celebrities undergoing upper blepharoplasty, or "bleph" surgery, is sparking debate about contemporary beauty ideals. While historically performed on older individuals to correct sagging eyelids and improve vision, the procedure is now speculated among celebrities in their 30s and 40s to refine their appearance.
This cosmetic surgery, which removes excess skin, muscle, or fat from the eyelids, can range from $6,000 to $15,000. Recent data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates a nearly 19% rise in eyelid surgeries in the U.S. compared to the previous year, making it a highly popular cosmetic procedure.
Plastic surgeons caution that while blepharoplasty can make eyes appear more open, overdoing it can lead to unnatural results or complications like dry eye. They emphasize that natural eyelid shapes are beautiful and that a desire for surgery should not be driven solely by fleeting trends.
Despite the increase, individuals in their 20s and early 30s still account for less than 3% of blepharoplasty patients, with the majority still being those aged 55 and older. Experts advise that benefits should clearly outweigh drawbacks, and the best cosmetic surgery remains "invisibly visible."
