Kanakadasa Jayanti Celebrates the Life of Revered Kannada Saint

On November 8th, 2025, the Kanakadasa Jayanti (birthday celebration) was held in Hubballi, India, organized jointly by the taluk panchayat and the backward classes welfare department. Kanakadasa, a renowned Kannada saint, was born in Baada village of Shiggaon taluk in Haveri district.
Legislator Mahesh Tenginakai presided over the event, emphasizing Kanakadasa's significant contributions to Kannada literature through his compositions. Tenginakai noted that Kanakadasa was a devout follower of Lord Krishna in Udupi and was known for his famous devotion, the "Kanakana Kindi." Importantly, Kanakadasa fought against caste discrimination, advocating that people should not "fight over caste."
The event featured a tribute to Kanakadasa's portrait, and community service workers were honored. Sharan Annigeri delivered a lecture, while legislator NH Konaraddi participated and offered flowers to Kanakadasa's portrait. Officials from the local government, including the Hubballi Urban Tahsildar, Rural Tahsildar, and Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer, attended the celebration.
PR Kiranagi, the personal secretary to the NWKRTC chairman, noted that Kanakadasa's teachings are universally accepted, and his works and kirtanas (devotional songs) have been instrumental in streamlining society. The event aimed to educate future generations about Kanakadasa's personality and strive for societal unity, following the path laid by the revered Kannada saint.
