Cape Town has regained its title as the best-value winter sun destination for British tourists, according to an annual survey. The coastal South African city offers the lowest total cost for a basket of eight tourist items, priced at £58.24. This basket included drinks, a meal for two, and sun cream, outperforming 24 other destinations analyzed.
While the South African rand has strengthened against sterling, Cape Town's affordability persists due to lower inflation compared to other locations. Mombasa in Kenya secured the runner-up position, with a similar basket costing £63.66. Both South Africa and Kenya offer significantly cheaper dining options for UK tourists, with prices remaining consistent over the last five years.
Globally, Tokyo ranked third in value at £66.76, followed by Colombo, Sri Lanka, at £74.79. The survey did not account for travel costs from the UK, focusing solely on the on-the-ground expenses for tourists.
