A father diagnosed with spine cancer has thanked a charity for finishing his family home in just two weeks. Jay House, from Ipswich, contacted the Wisbech-based charity Band of Builders after his illness prevented him from completing a home extension. The 49-year-old and his family had been living with a makeshift kitchen for 18 months.
"It is absolutely fantastic and has just lifted a dark cloud off of all of us in the family," Jay stated, emphasizing how the renovation will make daily life significantly easier. Previously, his home was a constant building site. Jay had also undergone a leg amputation about 10 years prior.
The project, which was the 50th for Band of Builders, involved volunteers working to restore every room to a habitable state. Project manager Kent Taylor described the undertaking as "pretty immense," while charity chief executive Gavin Crane expressed pride in the volunteers who dedicated their time and skills.
Band of Builders, established in 2016, supports tradespeople and their families nationwide. The value of projects completed by the charity is approaching £2 million, showcasing their significant contribution to the community.
