Summary
- 4-year-old Adonis spreads kindness by giving paper hearts to strangers
- Silverwood development in California requires residents to sign "Kindness Pledge"
- Kindness initiatives shown to improve health, happiness, and community bonds
As of November 13th, 2025, a California community called Silverwood is making headlines for its unique approach to fostering kindness and community. The development, located about 80 miles east of Los Angeles, requires all residents to sign a "Kindness Pledge" upon moving in.
The pledge outlines Silverwood's vision of creating a close-knit neighborhood where "everyone knew everyone" and residents look out for one another. This pledge has already had a tangible impact, with new residents like Brandon Dill and Cathy Khoonsrivong saying it was the "icing on the cake" of their decision to move there.
Just last month, 4-year-old Adonis from Brooklyn spent his school break making paper hearts to give to strangers in his community, exemplifying the spirit of the Silverwood pledge. Experts say initiatives that promote kindness can have far-reaching benefits, from lowering stress levels and increasing happiness to building stronger community bonds and even improving physical health.
Silverwood's developer, John Ohanian, hopes the pledge will help foster a modern-day version of Roseto, Pennsylvania - a town where residents' exceptional kindness and community support were found to be "health protective" decades ago. While there are no "kindness police" enforcing the pledge, Ohanian believes residents who embrace it will have a more fulfilling experience living in Silverwood.
