5 Nov
Summary
- Pet budgie escaped during a storm and was found in a drain.
- The budgie was discovered by a motorist who reported it to the RSPCA.
- An RSPCA inspector rescued the bird from her "hidey hole".
A budgie named Luna has been safely rescued after her daring escape during a recent storm. Luna's unexpected journey began when a window in her Northampton home blew open amid Storm Boelo.
She was later found by a motorist hiding in a drain approximately one mile from her home. The motorist promptly contacted the RSPCA for assistance.
RSPCA Inspector Richard Durant and trainee officer Rosie Cowie located Luna in a pipe within the drain on October 26th. Cowie described the rescue, saying Luna's beak was visible peeking from the pipe. She was gently retrieved and placed in a pet carrier, marking Cowie's first rescue.
Luna's owner, Cimberley Frost, had noticed the open kitchen window after Luna went quiet during the storm. Despite playing budgie noises and posting on social media, she learned of Luna's rescue through a contact. Frost expressed immense relief at Luna's return, noting how quiet the house had been without her.
Luna is now back to being "lady of the house," her first adventure hopefully her last.
