Summary
- A recent event honored Brooklyn's Tip-Top Bar, a Black-owned institution.
- The bar faces demographic shifts with a predominantly white clientele.
- The event aimed to foster community and preserve neighborhood culture.

The Tip-Top Bar and Grill, a Black-owned institution in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant, recently hosted an event called "The Rest Is History." This gathering aimed to foster community and preserve the neighborhood's rapidly changing culture. Once a hub for Black residents, the bar now predominantly serves a white clientele.
Linda Greer, whose family owns the bar, recalls a different Bedford-Stuyvesant. The establishment, founded in the late 1950s, has witnessed significant demographic shifts. Jerald Cooper, an event organizer, sought to pay tribute to the Black families and businesses that shaped the area.
Bedford-Stuyvesant has experienced significant gentrification, with the Black population decreasing from 75 percent in 2000 to about 40 percent in 2023. This transformation has led to community unrest and a focus on supporting existing Black businesses like Tip-Top Bar.
