Boxing Day Swims Cancelled Due to Strong Winds

Two beloved Boxing Day sea swims in Norfolk have been cancelled, with organisers citing safety concerns due to predicted strong winds and high tides. The traditional events at Cromer and Mundesley, which have raised significant funds for local charities, will not proceed as planned on December 26th. Organisers expressed regret but emphasized the paramount importance of ensuring the safety of participants and attendees. Challenging sea conditions and a build-up of rocks on the beach were specifically mentioned as contributing factors in the decision.

While the Cromer swim, a tradition for over 30 years, will not be held this year under its current organizers, there is optimism for its future. The North Norfolk Beach Runners, who have organized the event, confirmed it was their last time but indicated several interested parties are hoping to take over. At Mundesley, the Independent Lifeboat stated the cancellation was beyond their control, prioritizing the well-being of everyone involved.

Despite these cancellations, other festive swims in Norfolk are still expected to proceed. The event at Sea Palling, organized by Let's Do It Anyway, was scheduled to go ahead with a final decision to be made on the day, subject to conditions and advice from Humber Coastguard. Hunstanton's Christmas Day swim was also confirmed to be taking place as planned, supporting multiple local charities.
