Blind Couple's Love Story Inspires Hope

Malcolm Day and Sarah Brooks, a visually impaired couple from Scarborough, are excitedly anticipating their upcoming wedding in September. The couple first met in June 2024 during a holiday in Blackpool, a year after Sarah, who lost her sight in 2016, relocated to Scarborough to be with Malcolm. Their relationship blossomed, leading to Malcolm proposing during a karaoke night in Blackpool.

They have since purchased a house together in Scarborough, where they reside with their three dogs. The couple openly discusses their experiences with sight loss, sharing a lighthearted perspective on their visual abilities. Sarah has chosen nine visually impaired friends to be her bridesmaids, emphasizing the strong community aspect of their celebration.

Their story aims to serve as an inspiration to other visually impaired individuals who may feel hesitant about dating. As Irena Valchera from the charity Eye Matter notes, dating can be a difficult challenge for many with visual impairments, often leading to feelings of shyness or inadequacy. Malcolm and Sarah's success aims to show that sight loss does not have to be a limiting factor in pursuing relationships.
