Summary
- Cleaners abseil from Blackpool Tower at 380ft.
- The team enjoys spectacular workplace views of the Irish Sea.
- Some cleaners continue a family tradition using modern equipment.
As the summer holidays commence, a team of expert cleaners with a head for heights has been engaged for an unusual task. Fylde Coast Cleaners Ltd is currently undertaking window cleaning at an elevation of approximately 380 feet (116 meters) on the glass SkyWalk of the Blackpool Tower.
Secured by safety ropes, the team abseils from the tower's summit, arguably experiencing one of Blackpool's most magnificent workplace vistas, with the distant Irish Sea stretching out and the Promenade far below. For some on the team, this work represents a continuation of a family tradition. One cleaner recalled his ancestor used newspapers and socks for window cleaning, a stark contrast to the modern equipment utilized today.
