A paralyzed stray dog named Birdie, found struggling in Baja after being hit by a car approximately two months prior, is now on the path to recovery. Rescuers Nick Reilly and Alli Jaeger discovered Birdie in dire condition, learning that her spine was completely severed, meaning she would never walk on all four legs again. Determined to give her a better quality of life, the rescuers provided Birdie with a custom wheelchair.
Birdie's newfound mobility in her wheelchair quickly garnered millions of fans online, with clips showing her joyfully racing down the beach. Despite the positive progress, Birdie later underwent double amputation surgery due to risks associated with her condition. Following the operation, she experienced complications requiring a longer hospital stay than anticipated. She was recently discharged and is now recuperating at home.
As of late September 2026, Birdie has made a significant recovery milestone, joyfully returning to her wheelchair. Her rescuers, Nick Reilly and Alli Jaeger, expressed their happiness as she continues to heal and actively searches for a permanent loving family to call her own. Birdie's inspiring resilience has captured the hearts of many worldwide.
