The community of Frankford Township is in mourning following the passing of Emery "Sam" Castimore Jr., a longtime public official who was remembered for his deep commitment to serving the people and animals of the area. Castimore, who died on Nov. 9, 2025 at the age of 75 after a nearly 20-year battle with cancer, had been a member of the Township Committee since 2010, including several stints as mayor.
Described as a "warrior in every sense" and an "honorable man who loved and served his community for decades," Castimore was praised for his friendly demeanor and unique level of compassion that set him apart from many other local politicians. In addition to his work in government, Castimore was a lifelong resident of Sussex County and a veterinarian who opened his own practice, Animal General Veterinary Hospital, in his childhood home.
Frankford Township clerk Lori Nienstedt highlighted Castimore's "quiet kindness" and humble nature, noting that he rarely publicized his efforts to help others. This was exemplified by a story of Castimore secretly leaving snow tires for a resident who had asked for his advice. Nienstedt believes many similar acts of generosity will come to light in the wake of Castimore's passing, as the community mourns the loss of a truly one-of-a-kind public servant.
