Capybara Babies Get Sweet Chocolate-Inspired Names!

Three baby capybaras at a wildlife park in Kent have been given their names after an engaging public vote. Colin, Clive, and Cuthbert are the chosen names for the young rodents, who were born in October. Keepers announced the names with a video, humorously noting the babies were 'stealing our hearts.'

The naming inspiration, according to head of mammals Meg Lawler, came from well-known chocolate caterpillar cakes. Capybaras, the world's largest rodents, experienced a surge in popularity in 2023 due to a viral TikTok song, leading to increased demand at animal parks.

Park visitors have shown immense interest in the capybara trio. Lawler stated that capybaras are popular attractions, and the new babies are drawing significant attention. The park involved fans by soliciting name suggestions, shortlisting favorites, and conducting a poll to select the winning names. Staff are hopeful for future capybara births at the park.
