4 Aug
Summary
- A disused cabin was discovered on a dockside during a holiday.
- The cabin was transported to a garden and lovingly restored.
- It won the 'unexpected or unique' category at Shed of the Year Awards.
A remarkable transformation has earned a garden structure the top prize at the Shed of the Year Awards. Abi Chesterton first spotted the derelict cabin while on holiday in Maryport, Cumbria, in 2022. It was described as looking "sorry for itself" on a dockside.
Months later, her partner, Richard Banks, orchestrated the cabin's arrival at their garden near Oswestry, Shropshire. The couple then dedicated themselves to its loving restoration.
This unique project ultimately captured the judges' attention, leading to a win in the highly competitive 'unexpected or unique' category at the annual awards ceremony.
