Paralysed Man's Life Rebuilt by Assistance Dogs

James Crossley, a 46-year-old from Shropshire, suffered a life-altering injury after a fall while dismantling an ash tree. The fall left him paralysed from the chest down, requiring doctors to place him on life support and warn his family of his critical condition. He had to relearn fundamental life skills, including speaking and eating.

Canine Partners provided crucial support, matching him with an assistance dog named Winter in 2012. Winter assisted with everyday tasks like retrieving dropped objects and operating elevators, significantly reducing the physical demands of Crossley's life and enhancing his confidence. Following Winter's passing in 2022, the charity introduced Dawn, another assistance dog, who brought further positive change. During this period, Crossley met Jess, and their relationship blossomed, looking towards a future filled with possibility.
