This comprehensive, multi-year initiative has updated the century-old building into a modern, ADA-compliant community center, meticulously balancing contemporary needs with the preservation of its architectural legacy.
The extensive upgrades span 38,000 square feet, introducing new elevators, a wheelchair-accessible entrance, modern gym equipment, and essential infrastructure improvements like updated air conditioning and plumbing. The renovated facility is designed to serve approximately 2,500 people each year through various programs.
Significant community-focused additions include a new childcare center providing 38 slots and a patient exam room for health services through a partnership with local healthcare providers. The historic character has been maintained with restored features like an original plaster mantlepiece and signature arched windows.
The renovation also critically enhanced the YMCA's 89 Single Room Occupancy (SRO) units, adding private bathrooms and improved communal spaces. An on-site director assists residents with accessing vital resources and support services, underscoring the YMCA's commitment to the community.
