Nicci had written the article to give her mother a voice, sharing Savinder's life, including her young marriage and divorce in India, and the subsequent separation from her son, Titu (Avtar). Savinder, who later moved to Kenya and remarried, never forgot her son, often crying out 'Mera bacha' during her later years.
The connection was made when Avtar noticed a detail in Nicci's article about his mother's time in Dhariwal, India, the city of his birth. He reached out to Nicci via email, and they quickly established their sibling relationship through a phone call.
Avtar and Nicci met in person in London shortly after their discovery. Avtar also met his mother's surviving brother and his half-brother, all of whom welcomed him into the family. Despite their mother's passing in December 2024, the reunion has brought immense joy and a sense of closure.
