As of November 10, 2025, actor Dylan Efron, 33, has found great joy in adopting a rescue dog named Booey. Efron, who is known for his appearance on Dancing with the Stars, opened up about his love for German shepherd breeds and how adopting Booey in 2021 has been a life-changing experience.
Efron, who recently partnered with Banfield Pet Hospital to celebrate National Senior Pet and Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month, shared that he initially wanted to adopt a puppy when he began his search for a pet. However, a dog trainer on a movie set advised him to consider an older dog instead, as they tend to be the "best trained" and make the "best companions."
Heeding the trainer's advice, Efron shifted his focus to shelters and eventually found Booey, a German shepherd mutt. Efron explains that rescue dogs "know what loss is and they really just want a home," and adopting them can be an "incredibly rewarding feeling."
Reflecting on the impact Booey has had on his life, Efron says, "Booey's made my life so much better. It breaks my heart looking back at the videos of Booey in the shelter and how far he's come. Dogs make your life better; it's just a fact."
