A 95-year-old veteran, Jim Alison, has rediscovered the thrill of driving five years after losing his sight. Registered blind, Alison experienced renewed freedom on the Llandow Circuit in the Vale of Glamorgan, reaching speeds of 90 km/ph. He was accompanied by an instructor in a specially equipped Mazda MX5.
Participating in a Speed of Sight event, Alison, a former chauffeur and Royal Engineers veteran, described the experience as "absolutely fantastic." He expressed gratitude for the charity, founded by Mike Newman, who was born blind and aims to provide driving opportunities for those who have had to give up their licenses.
The event also hosted other participants, including 14-year-old Harley and 68-year-old Dean Twaite, who also shared their profound joy and sense of exhilaration. Speed of Sight utilizes modified cars and dual controls, offering a unique experience that fosters confidence and enjoyment for individuals with visual impairments.
