17 Feb
Summary
- An 86-year-old woman will compete at Crufts for the first time.
- She found companionship in a Pekingese named Betty Boo.
- Betty Boo qualified for the show after only two weeks.

Eileen Finningley, aged 86, is preparing for her first-ever competition at the renowned Crufts dog show, accompanied by her Pekingese, Betty Boo. This significant event follows Eileen's personal journey, having welcomed Betty Boo into her life in 2025 after experiencing loneliness following her husband's passing.
Betty Boo, who is the niece of a dog famous for its role in the TV remake of 'All Creatures Great and Small,' will compete in the junior bitch category. The dog show is scheduled to take place from March 5 to 8 at the NEC in Birmingham. Eileen's entry into the competitive dog show world was remarkably quick, as Betty Boo qualified for Crufts within weeks of being acquired.
Eileen shared that her introduction to the dog show circuit happened serendipitously. The breeder had already entered Betty Boo into a prior show. Despite her inexperience, Eileen was encouraged to participate, and Betty Boo's third-place finish, earning a rosette, secured her qualification for Crufts. Eileen emphasizes Betty Boo's beauty and the diligent grooming she requires.
