Sheila Morris, an 80-year-old resident of East Anglia, is preparing for an extraordinary adventure: a wing walk on a vintage biplane. The event is scheduled to take place at Wickenby Airfield in Lincoln on August 23. Morris will be secured in a harness atop the upper wing of a 1942 Boeing Stearman biplane, experiencing exhilarating views hundreds of feet in the air.
Her motivation for this daring act is to raise much-needed funds for Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in Aston. Morris's daughter, Lynsey Colebrook, who is the community fundraising manager at the sanctuary, will also participate in the wing walk, joined by two other colleagues. The group has set a fundraising target of at least £3,000.
Morris, a retired school teacher and grandmother-of-two, expressed her enthusiasm for the challenge, stating, "I thought it would be rather fun." She acknowledged that some friends find her participation adventurous but remains committed, especially to support the animal sanctuary's important work. Her husband, Mike, will be present to cheer them on.
