Giant Tortoise, 40kg, Seeks New Home

A 16-year-old African spurred tortoise named Theo is searching for a new home because he has become too large for his current owner. Weighing an impressive 40kg, Theo is described as being in his 'young adult' phase. This species, also known as the sulcata tortoise, is the largest in Africa and can typically grow to around 45kg.

Theo was recently presented at an open day hosted by the Norfolk Tortoise Club, where visitors had the opportunity to meet him and other tortoises available for adoption. Although his previous owner cared for him well, Theo's growth necessitated a change in living situation. African spurred tortoises are known for their size, with record holders reaching over 100kg.
