In a recent interview, 25-year-old actress Halle Bailey opened up about her passion for postpartum advocacy. The City of Los Angeles recently honored Bailey for her work in this area, which she sees as deeply personal and important.
Bailey, who welcomed her son Halo 22 months ago, explained that she felt compelled to speak out about the emotional and hormonal challenges of new motherhood. "When we give birth, we're like, wow, the emotions, the hormones, everything. You realize that you need a strong support system with you. You need help," she said.
The actress, known for her role in The Color Purple, emphasized the need to support younger women like herself, around 24 and 25 years old, who are navigating the transition to parenthood. "I felt like, wow, I have to speak up about this -- not only for, you know, the older women, but the younger generation of women," she shared.
Bailey believes that being open about her own experience can help others feel less alone. "I just think it's amazing to just be open about it because it can help so many people and make you not feel alone," she added. The doting mom also expressed how much she's learning from her son, saying, "I'm feeding the little girl in me, like painting or doing a fun activity. It's like oh I'm having fun. I'm a child again too."
