26 Aug
Summary
- A 225-acre park is replacing a former Kentucky golf course.
- The new park will feature extensive trails and adventure activities.
- Groundbreaking for the park is expected in 2026.

A former golf course in Independence, Kentucky, is set to become a vibrant 225-acre public park. The site, previously Fox Run Golf Course, will feature extensive amenities including hiking and biking trails, climbing structures, a dog park, and interactive water features. Plans also include a potential Go Ape aerial adventure course.
Kenton County leaders envision the park as a premier destination for family outdoor recreation. The project, expected to break ground in 2026, aims to create a unique space for exploration and memory-making. Much of the park's natural character will be preserved, with approximately 70% of the site remaining untouched by construction.
The park's design is organized around three distinct ridges: Civic Ridge for family gatherings and amenities like a splash pad; Adventure Ridge for active pursuits such as mountain biking and climbing; and Trail Ridge for nature exploration and an extensive trail network.
The transformation of Fox Run Golf Course into a public park was formally approved by the Kenton County Fiscal Court in August 2020. The property is currently open for passive recreation while development progresses.
