London commuters will have a rare opportunity to travel on historic Tube trains from the 1930s as they return to the Piccadilly Line in early May. These Art Deco trains, known as the 1938 stock, are distinguished by their wooden-framed windows and red and green upholstery. They were the first Tube trains to have all electrical equipment housed beneath the floor and served the London Underground for fifty years.
Heritage journeys will take place on the Piccadilly Line over the May bank holiday weekend. On May 2, the four-carriage railcars will operate between Northfields and the Heathrow Loop, with each trip lasting approximately 45 minutes. On May 3 and 4, journeys will run between Cockfosters and Northfields, with each ride taking about 70 minutes, including a return route.
Passengers can choose between gold and bronze tickets, with gold tickets offering front carriage travel for £30 (adults) and £20 (children). Bronze tickets are priced at £25 for adults and £15 for children. Tickets must be booked in advance, as regular Oyster cards will not be accepted for these special heritage rides.
