A simple act of kindness has blossomed into a large-scale charitable effort, providing 1,500 care bags to cancer patients. Rebecca Evans was inspired when her sister, Jella, who is undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia at Ipswich Hospital, received a small wooden token from a stranger. The token, a 'pocket hug,' brought a smile to Jella's face during a difficult time.
Motivated by this gesture, Evans initiated 'Jella's Journey,' a campaign to distribute similar comfort items. She reached out to her Instagram followers, initially expecting enough donations for around 50 bags. However, the response was overwhelming, with hundreds of boxes of donations arriving, leading to the creation of 1,500 care bags.
The care bags contain various treats and toiletries, intended to offer comfort to patients. Evans and Jella have begun distributing these bags at Ipswich Hospital. Future plans include delivering them to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where Jella is scheduled for a bone marrow operation, extending the reach of this compassionate initiative.
