In a remarkable display of community spirit, 101 couples, many of whom are orphans or from impoverished backgrounds, were united in marriage at Telgaon village in Gumla, Jharkhand, on Sunday. The ceremony included 68 couples from tribal communities and 33 from the Sadan communities.
This mass wedding was organized and funded entirely free of cost by retired police officer Jagarnath Oraon, who has facilitated over 600 such unions since 2021. Oraon's mission is to support individuals who have lost their parents or come from single-parent households.
The local villagers embraced the occasion wholeheartedly, serving as hosts for both families and contributing essential items for the wedding feast. This collective effort ensured a grand celebration for all the newlyweds.
The tribal tradition of Yera-Sundari was performed by village elders, while wedding rituals for tribal couples were led by tribal priests and for the Sadan community by Brahmin priests, showcasing a beautiful blend of traditions.
