28 Nov
Summary
- A 100-year-old woman will switch on Banbury's Christmas lights.
- She was born in 1925 in Banbury Town Hall.
- Longevity attributed to friends and weekly ballroom dancing.

Ena Bowley, a remarkable centenarian, has been chosen to illuminate her hometown of Banbury for the Christmas festivities. Born in 1925 at Banbury Town Hall, Ms. Bowley expressed her honor and privilege in being asked to perform this special duty on Sunday. She fondly recalls her childhood in the town, where her father served as the town hall keeper.
Ms. Bowley, who will attend the event regardless of weather, believes her longevity is a result of strong friendships and a love for dancing. Despite the loss of her husband, a passionate dancer, ten years ago, she continues to attend ballroom dancing classes weekly, crediting her friends for encouraging her to stay active.
The Mayor of Banbury selected Ms. Bowley, recognizing her deep connection to the town and her contributions. Her lifelong residency and vibrant spirit make her the perfect choice to officially begin the holiday season in "dear old Banbury."
