Zingerman's Recalls Peanut Butter and Cashew Candy Bars Before Halloween

Just days before Halloween, Zingerman's Candy Manufactory has announced a recall of two of its popular candy bars due to a production issue. According to the notice, the Peanut Butter Crush Bars and Cashew Cow Bars were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of cashews and peanuts, respectively.

The recall was triggered by a temporary breakdown in the production and packaging process, which the company says has now been resolved. While no illnesses have been reported so far, nut allergies can be life-threatening, and consumers with such sensitivities are urged to avoid the affected products.

The recalled items were distributed to retailers in Michigan and New York and have since reached consumers. The Peanut Butter Crush Bars come in Zingerman's Candy Manufactory's signature yellow and purple 2-ounce boxes, while the Cashew Cow Bars are packaged in light blue and yellow 2-ounce boxes. Consumers are advised to check the lot numbers on the packaging and discard or return the products if they have them.

Zingerman's has stated that the number of affected bars was a small fraction of their overall output, with only 156 Peanut Butter Crush Bars and 78 Cashew Cow Bars from a single lot being recalled. The company has notified all of its wholesale customers and is working to ensure the products are removed from store shelves.
