Mouldy Food & Mouse Droppings: Restaurant's Zero Hygiene Rating
13 Jan
Summary
- Restaurant found with slime, rancid feta, and mouldy olives.
- Mouse droppings discovered in kitchen and near packaging.
- Inspectors noted mould spores on garnish and dirty fridge surfaces.

A Merseyside restaurant, Amara, has been handed the lowest possible food hygiene rating of zero following a critical inspection by Wirral Council. Environmental health inspectors discovered alarming levels of contamination, including slime, rancid feta cheese, and mouldy olives, necessitating urgent improvements.
The inspection, which took place in October, uncovered evidence of mice within the kitchen premises, with droppings found near food packaging and food preparation areas. There was a notable lack of pest control measures. Furthermore, mould spores were identified on prepared garnish, and a container of feta cheese had visibly spoiled.
Further concerns included defrosted prawns on a dirty dish and a severely contaminated fridge. The kitchen's general state, including dirty walls and a filthy area behind the grill, also contributed to the zero rating. An oven hazard was also noted. The business received the worst scores in all inspection categories.
