Iain Cook, a 29-year-old father, tragically died on October 31, 2016, from an undiagnosed heart condition. Weeks prior, he had visited his GP with arm pain, which was dismissed as a muscle strain. Iain was described as fit and healthy, actively involved in football and recently a new father to Zac. His wife found him deceased at their home, with a post-mortem revealing coronary heart disease and left ventricular hypertrophy.
His lifelong best friend, Mike Scott, is spearheading a fundraising initiative called The Batman Challenge to honor Iain's memory and raise awareness. The campaign seeks to raise £20,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to fund cardiac screenings for 250 young people. This effort aims to prevent further tragedies from hidden heart conditions, which affect around 12 young people weekly in the UK. The challenge includes a series of events, starting with an abseil from Anfield and a cycle to Dunfermline.
