Yorkshire Teen Mental Health Units Earn 'Good' Ratings
25 Feb
Summary
- Two Yorkshire care units for teens received 'good' ratings from inspectors.
- Inspectors noted that young people felt safe and respected on wards.
- An 'inadequate' rating was given for medicines management issues.

Care units in Yorkshire catering to teenagers with severe mental health conditions have been collectively rated 'good' by inspectors. Mill Lodge in York and Red Kite View in Leeds underwent inspections last October by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The CQC reported that young individuals at both facilities expressed positive sentiments about their care and felt secure on the wards. Staff were commended for treating patients with empathy, compassion, and respect for their privacy and dignity.
Mill Lodge, established in 2015, offers 10 beds for adolescents requiring intensive support. Red Kite View, which opened in early 2022, includes a 16-bed general unit and a six-bed psychiatric intensive care unit.
While inspectors noted activities promoting healthy lifestyles, including gym access and sports, they identified significant concerns with medicines management. Specifically, issues with daily temperature recording at Red Kite View led to an 'inadequate' rating in this area.
