In an effort to alleviate the anticipated winter rush, Yeovil Hospital is launching a new urgent care treatment center to help reduce waiting times for patients with broken bones, infections, and other non-life-threatening conditions.

As of November 13th, 2025, patients arriving at the hospital will now be triaged by a nurse at the front door. Those with serious, emergency-level issues will be sent directly to the emergency department, while those with less severe conditions will be directed to the new urgent care center.

According to Katy Sizer, the emergency care service manager at the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, this new process will allow the hospital to provide "timely treatment" to patients who need urgent care. Dr. Joby Kotoor, who works at the hospital, noted that waiting times have been "quite high" and the urgent care center should help reduce them.
