- The company is investigating a link between buckwheat and the eye issues.

A luxury pet food brand, "Years," has issued a product recall due to reports of eye problems in dogs. The subscription service has identified a potential link between its buckwheat ingredient and a dry eye condition affecting canines. As of August 16th, the company had received 57 suspected cases, impacting 0.1% of its customers.
Customers were alerted on Monday night, with the company advising them to stop feeding "Years" products to their pets. Symptoms reported include redness, cloudiness, discharge, and discomfort around the eyes. The brand, which offers gourmet meals, began an investigation in early August after receiving multiple reports.
One affected customer, David Felton from north London, shared that his dog Cookie developed severe eye issues in April, leading to significant vet expenses. He expressed worry and distress over his pet's suffering and the unexpected cause linked to high-quality food.
"Years" has paused subscriptions for six weeks and will replace buckwheat with quinoa in its meals. The company committed to publishing the investigation's findings and apologized for the disruption.
