PGIMER Celebrates Women's Day with Health Awareness

Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) hosted a special awareness session on women's health to mark International Women's Day. The event featured the release of a special issue on 'Women and Gastroenterology' by the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Usha Dutta highlighted that 80% of gallbladder cancer cases are attributed to gallstones. She explained that women are more susceptible to gallstones and related cancers due to hormonal fluctuations, particularly during pregnancy or when using contraceptives.

Preventive measures discussed included regular ultrasounds to detect gallstones, especially in pregnant women. Painful gallstones warrant removal, while asymptomatic ones require regular follow-ups. PGIMER also announced regular health screenings for female sanitation and hospital attendant staff.
