11 Apr
Summary
- Woman told she had six months to live is now running a marathon.
- She battled six years of severe alcohol dependency in her twenties.
- Approaching three years alcohol-free, she helps others in recovery.

A 28-year-old woman, who received a grim prognosis of only six months to live if she continued her two-liter daily gin consumption, is now preparing to run a half marathon. This remarkable feat comes as she approaches three years of being alcohol-free, marking a profound recovery from a six-year struggle with dependency in her twenties.
Previously, Holly Dyson's life was dominated by alcohol, to the extent that she did not consume any other liquid for three years and frequently started her day with alcohol. She faced severe liver disease and was hospitalized multiple times, even vomiting blood. Despite being told she had only six months left in 2023, she initially found it difficult to stop.
Now, Dyson uses her lived experience to help others as a support worker for Change Grow Live. She is running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Alcohol Change UK, aiming to raise awareness and funds, and to challenge negative stereotypes surrounding alcohol addiction. She wants to show that recovery is achievable and that addiction can affect anyone, regardless of stereotypes.
