Hospitalized for 14 Months Over Care Funding Dispute
15 Jul
Summary
- Woman hospitalized for 14 months awaiting care package funding.
- Complex neurological condition requires one-to-one care.
- Funding issues have twice paused transfer to specialist placement.

A Southport woman, Natasha, 27, has remained in hospital for 14 months as authorities determine responsibility for her complex care package funding. She suffers from Leigh's Disease, a rare progressive neurological disorder, and GAMT deficiency, necessitating one-to-one complex care.
Natasha has been medically cleared for discharge for the past eleven months. However, securing the necessary care package has proven exceptionally difficult. A planned transfer to a specialist placement in Bolton earlier this year was halted due to last-minute funding issues.
A subsequent transfer, scheduled for Monday, was also paused just days before, leaving her mother Elaine distraught. NHS Cheshire and Merseyside have apologized and stated their priority is to secure Natasha's care swiftly.
