Woman Glues Eye Shut With Nail Glue By Mistake
11 Jun
Summary
- Mistakenly used nail glue instead of eye drops.
- Experienced intense pain and feared vision loss.
- Suffered corneal abrasion and chemical burns.

Leigh Stanger of Maryland recently experienced a harrowing incident when she mistook nail glue for eye drops on the morning of June 6. Suffering from dry eyes after LASIK surgery, she instinctively applied the substance, only to find her eye immediately glued shut. The intense burning sensation and fear of permanent damage prompted a rush to the emergency room and subsequently Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Doctors at Johns Hopkins administered ointment and pain relief, working for over 12 hours to carefully pry open Stanger's eye and remove the dried glue shards. She sustained a significant corneal abrasion and chemical burns to her eyelid and eye. Although her eyelashes were largely lost and her vision remains blurry, she is expected to fully recover.
