Winnipeg Menopause Clinic Restores Vital Care
21 Apr
Summary
- New Manitoba Menopause Clinic to open by fall next year.
- Clinic offers mental health, procedures, and gynecological supports.
- Previous centre closure in 2017 led to a widening gap in care.
Manitoba is set to re-establish specialized menopause services with the upcoming Manitoba Menopause Clinic, slated to open by fall next year. This initiative addresses the decade-long gap in care that followed the closure of the Mature Women's Centre in Winnipeg in 2017. The former centre's closure, intended for cost-saving and service consolidation, failed to transfer adequate support to community providers.
The new $5.2 million clinic, located at 1333 Kenaston Blvd., will offer a comprehensive range of services. These include mental health care, minimally invasive procedures, educational resources, and various gynecological supports. This restoration of services aims to address the needs of patients experiencing menopause and perimenopause, ensuring continuity of care.
Specialized staff, including nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, and gynecologists, will be on-site. They will collaborate with off-site specialists like endocrinologists and cardiologists to provide tailored care. This 'hub and spoke' model is designed for future adaptability to evolving patient needs, a crucial development after years of unmet demand and extended wait times, which currently range from six months to a year.
