Kat Dodd, 34, saved her husband Adam Dodd, 32, a former Manchester United footballer, by performing 16 minutes of CPR when he suffered a heart attack. She awoke in the early hours of June 4, 2022, to find him gasping for air, his body showing no signs of blood circulation. Ms Dodd immediately called for an ambulance and initiated CPR, a skill she learned through her profession as a primary school teacher.
Her immediate action and knowledge of first aid proved vital, as Adam Dodd's survival chances were significantly increased. He remained in an induced coma for several days in intensive care before waking up in hospital. Now equipped with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, he has returned to playing football, but the near-fatal event has profoundly impacted the couple's lives.
More than two years later, the Dodds are collaborating with the British Heart Foundation to raise awareness about cardiac arrest survival rates. They are actively promoting the BHF's free online CPR training course, RevivR, emphasizing that prompt CPR can more than double survival chances, turning a potential tragedy into a story of hope.
