Summary
- Simon Boas died at 47 after a terminal throat cancer diagnosis.
- His posthumously published book is carried on by his widow, Aurélie.
- Community support in Jersey was vital for Aurélie's grief journey.

Aurélie Boas is honoring the legacy of her late husband, Simon, who passed away at the age of 47 following a terminal throat cancer diagnosis. Simon, diagnosed in September 2023, penned the book "A Beginner's Guide to Dying," which was published posthumously.
Aurélie, originally from Bordeaux, France, met Simon in Palestine and they married two years later, eventually moving to Jersey in October 2016. The news of Simon's terminal cancer was particularly difficult for Aurélie, as she was unaware of his ongoing tests and biopsy results.
She described the period after his diagnosis as paralyzing, with no long-term vision, yet they remained optimistic and focused on fighting the disease together. The community in Jersey provided Aurélie with crucial support, which she found to be magical and vital for her during her grief.
Aurélie reflected that grief is a solitary experience, but support systems are essential. She also stressed the importance of finding personal space, as the grief is ultimately her own. Resisting grief, she noted, only intensifies its return. She aims to navigate her grief on her own terms.
A documentary film is currently in production, featuring Simon's recorded voice from the audiobook and using animation to depict their lives. This project, alongside other initiatives, aims to carry forward Simon's profound message and creative output.
