18 Mar
Summary
- Woman's 20-year wheelchair use ended by surgery for rare foot condition.
- Doctor described her case of palmoplantar keratodermas as 'worst ever seen'.
- She can now walk and wear shoes after life-changing treatment.

A woman, identified as Bobbi, has overcome a 20-year struggle with a rare skin disorder that left her wheelchair-bound. The condition, palmoplantar keratodermas (PPK), caused severe, corn-like growths on the soles of her feet, making walking excruciatingly painful.
Dr. Marion Yau, a podiatrist, described Bobbi's case as the most extreme she had encountered in her career. PPK can be inherited or acquired, affecting an estimated 4.4 in 100,000 people. Treatments typically involve emollients and ointments to soften the skin.
Following specialized surgery on each foot, performed by consultant podiatric surgeon Ian Reilly, Bobbi has experienced a life transformation. Four months post-operation, she is able to put on socks and shoes, celebrating her return to walking and a renewed sense of well-being.
TLC's series, 'The Bad Foot Clinic,' documents Bobbi's journey and other severe foot conditions treated by Dr. Yau and her husband. The show premieres on March 18, 2025, at 10 pm ET.
