Watchdog Places Care Home in Special Measures
12 May
Summary
- Residents were at increased risk of harm, CQC found.
- Staff worked excessive hours, medicines were late.
- Home manager strongly disagrees with the findings.

A care home in Sheringham, West Wood Care Home, has been placed in special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after an inspection revealed significant concerns. The CQC's report, published recently, deemed the facility inadequate, citing risks to residents and overworked staff.
Numerous breaches were identified, including issues with person-centred care, safe treatment, governance, and staffing. Inspectors noted that medicines were not always administered on time and that parts of the home were unclean. Residents were also not consistently treated with respect.
Despite the critical findings, the management of West Wood Care Home, operated by Artisan Care, has voiced strong disagreement with the CQC's assessment. They maintain their commitment to providing the highest quality of care and highlighted recent enhancements, such as new management and an electronic incident management system, implemented since the inspection.
The home, which was accommodating 30 residents at the time of inspection against its capacity for 70, is awaiting a reinspection by the CQC. Management stated they have been in sustained contact with the CQC regarding their position and are focused on continuous improvement.
