Summary
- Council approves roadmap to improve adult social care services.
- Six priority areas include workforce, leadership, and data management.
- Lived experience to shape staff training and council decisions.

West Northamptonshire Council has officially approved a comprehensive plan to significantly improve its adult social care services. This initiative comes after a critical review by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in January, which rated the services as "requires improvement."
The newly adopted "roadmap" identifies six crucial priority areas. These include enhancing workforce development, strengthening leadership, refining data and performance management, improving communication, fostering better partnerships, and promoting equality within the services.
The CQC's assessment highlighted specific challenges, such as long waiting lists for support equipment and occupational therapy, particularly impacting those in rural locations. Experiences of accessing care were also noted as varied among individuals.
In developing this plan, the council actively collaborated with individuals who use the services, their carers, staff members, and community groups. This collaborative approach ensures the plan addresses inequalities, provides clearer information to the public, and increases engagement with community organizations.
A key feature of the new strategy is the inclusion of people with lived experience. They will play a vital role in training staff and influencing the finalization of council decisions, ensuring a user-centered approach to care improvements.
