Wenlock Hospital Gets ₹10 Cr Boost for New Floors

Government Wenlock Hospital is undergoing a significant expansion, with administrative approval granted for the construction of the fourth and fifth floors in its medicine block. These new floors will accommodate two wards totaling 74 beds, enhancing patient capacity. The project is being financed by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) through a ₹10 crore contribution from its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund, as confirmed by a government order issued on January 31, 2026.
The fourth floor will house a 52-bed ward and the Central Sterile Supply Department, while the fifth floor will feature a 22-bed ward. In parallel, the government has upgraded the position of the District Surgeon at Wenlock Hospital to Medical Superintendent. The Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dinesh Gundu Rao, announced that the government has outlined a ₹70 crore plan to bolster Wenlock Hospital's infrastructure, with ₹35 crore allocated for the initial phase. Discussions are also underway with Kasturba Medical College for a potential ₹100 crore grant to further develop the hospital's capabilities.
