- Oral therapies now capture a third of U.S. obesity prescriptions.
- Novo Nordisk leads oral obesity drug market with over 80% share.

Data presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting in Milan revealed that patients transitioning from injectable weight-loss medications to Novo Nordisk's daily oral semaglutide pill continued to lose weight. Participants shed an average of 4.1% of their body weight in three months after the switch.
This real-world study involved 194 patients and showed a decrease in the proportion of clinically obese individuals. The findings offer relief to Novo Nordisk, which is working to maintain its lead in the competitive obesity treatment market.
Oral therapies now constitute approximately one-third of U.S. obesity prescriptions. Novo Nordisk holds over 80% of these new oral prescriptions, indicating strong patient and physician adoption of its pill-based treatments.
Novo Nordisk's CEO anticipates that weight-loss pills could capture up to half of the global obesity-drug market, estimated to reach $100 billion annually by the end of the decade. The Wegovy pill is currently available in the U.S., Britain, Germany, and the UAE, with further international launches planned.
