The University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is significantly enhancing its lung cancer screening initiative in Warwickshire. A recently acquired scanner is set to process up to 50 individuals each day, operating seven days a week, thereby increasing accessibility and early detection capabilities across the region.
Since the program's inception in Coventry and Rugby back in 2021, it has demonstrated remarkable success. Data indicates that a substantial 80% of lung cancers identified through this screening have been diagnosed at stages one and two, representing crucial early intervention.
This expansion will allow more residents to benefit from early detection. Patients who are deemed high-risk following an initial phone consultation will receive an invitation for a scan, marking a proactive approach to combating lung cancer.
