Diarrhea Outbreak: Vasco Building's Water Suspected
19 Mar
Summary
- Nearly 149 diarrhea cases reported from Prabhu Violetta building.
- Water contamination suspected from bore wells in the building.
- Water and stool samples collected; lab reports expected March 28.

In Vasco, a health concern has arisen at the Prabhu Violetta building in Dabolim, with nearly 149 suspected diarrhea cases reported among its residents. This situation prompted the Mormugao deputy collector to issue directives to relevant authorities on Wednesday, as a potential water contamination is suspected.
The building's occupants officially lodged a complaint on Tuesday at the Vasco police station. They voiced concerns that the water supplied from the complex's bore wells might be polluted, leading to the recent surge in illnesses over the past four to five days.
In response, health officials, alongside the Goa State Pollution Control Board and the Food and Drugs Administration, have collected water samples. These samples were taken from sump water, bore wells, and overhead storage tanks. Stool and blood samples from residents were also collected to rule out typhoid or other bacterial infections. Laboratory results are expected by March 28.
