Varinder Ghuman Death: New Probe Panel Formed
27 Mar
Summary
- A new medical panel was formed to re-investigate actor Varinder Ghuman's death.
- Four hospital doctors were previously booked for alleged negligence.
- The Indian Medical Association requested the new panel's formation.

The Punjab government has established a new panel of 10 medical professionals to re-examine the circumstances surrounding the death of actor and bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman, aged 41. This decision comes after four doctors from Fortis Escort Hospital were previously booked for alleged negligence contributing to his passing, based on findings from an earlier investigation. The new committee is mandated to submit its findings within 15 days.
The previous medical board had highlighted a lack of transparency, inadequate explanation of complications, and deviations from standard protocols in the treatment provided to Ghuman. Following these findings, an FIR was registered on March 20, citing causing death by rash or negligent acts. The Indian Medical Association had expressed objections to the initial inquiry, noting the absence of an association representative, which prompted the formation of the current, more inclusive panel.
Varinder Singh Ghuman, a notable figure known as the world's first vegetarian professional bodybuilder, passed away on October 9 last year due to sudden cardiac arrest after undergoing surgery for a shoulder injury. The hospital has maintained that its clinical team acted diligently and in good faith throughout the patient's care.
